Namesake
Clyde Cornwall Fenton was the Northern Territory's first flying doctor. Unlike the other doctors with the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia, Clyde was a pilot, self-taught, and flew without the aid of any navigation equipment, air charts, and often proper landing strips. He was known for his "resolute devotion to duty", his "compulsive acceptance of challenge" and his "willful disregard of personal hazard". His one-man show eventually became the Northern Territory Aerial Medical Service.
Clyde Fenton, as a solitary, resilient figure, contributed much to an enduring Northern Territory self-image.
