As a Southern Italian from a long line of passionate home cooks and delicatessen owners, I was born and raised to enjoy delicious, authentic, Italian food. A traditional Mediterranean diet focuses on fresh produce, whole grains, and legumes, as well as some healthful fats and fish. Pizza in recent decades, however, tends to diverge from its Mediterranean roots, becoming high in saturated fat, inflammatory oils and far too many toppings.
I noticed a culinary gap in the ability to access simple, fresh sourdough pizza at both supermarkets and fooderies. It was this gap -coupled with some intense cravings and far too many disappointing frozen pizza experiences- that left me wondering: why is no one supplying a healthy, high-quality handmade pizza that could simply be warmed up and served? Here, Homemade Pizza Co was born with a promise to use only the cleanest, freshest and authentic ingredients. Like a pizza from Naples, but right here in Australia.
